Recently, members of Holland, Groves, Schneller & Stolze, LLC obtained the largest FELA judgment in United States history, $17 MILLION.   The firm also obtained a $4 Million FELA verdict in Miami-Dade County, Florida, followed by two of the largest FELA verdicts in the United States for "whole body vibration" claims, $1.2 Million and $1.769 Million respectively.  Additionally, the firm holds a number of jury verdict records from cases across the country, including the largest FELA verdicts in the history of Florida, Missouri and Kansas as well as three consecutive years with the largest railroad injury verdicts in Missouri.  These results are just a few in a long line of the firm's courtroom successes....more

Eric D. Holland

Eric D. Holland was born in 1965 in Illinois, growing up in a construction-trades family.  During high school, Eric earned varsity letters in three sports (baseball, basketball and golf) and began working construction during summer breaks.  Following high school, he attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, graduating in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and a minor in Economics. He attended the St. Louis University School of Law, where he was elected to the Law Review, graduating in 1991.  Eric worked his way through college and law school in the construction business, often working overtime with his father and learning the value of hard work and precision.  Since his graduation from law school, he has been admitted to the state bars of Illinois, Missouri and Michigan as well as federal courts in Texas and Colorado, and has been admitted to practice in cases from Florida, Alabama, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Ohio, Iowa, and Arkansas.
 
Currently, Eric limits his practice to catastrophic railroad and transportation accidents, petroleum  and toxic tort litigation and other complex commercial litigation including business torts, fraud, antitrust and price fixing. He has litigated cases in over 20 States and has obtained a large number of record-setting jury verdicts and settlements.  Among those are an all-time record $17 million for a railroad plaintiff with a mild traumatic head injury, a $4 million dollar record verdict for a Florida railroad case, and $1.7 million dollar net verdict for a rail conductor who was sued by his employer for causing a $1,000,000 train wreck, which was a first of its kind result. Eric is regularly hired by the country’s most seriously injured railroad workers and their families, as well as a wide variety of other clients including publicly-traded companies, water districts, hospitals, villages, international companies, and consumers.  
 
He is an active member of several trial attorney associations, has served on the Board of Governors for the Missouri Trial Attorneys, and is on the Steering Committee for the Midwestern Innocence Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to exonerating wrongly imprisoned people. Eric has been a frequent lecturer at seminars across the country and has authored multiple articles regarding litigation-related topics.  He has been elected a Super Lawyer for Missouri since 2006 and has held the “AV” rating of Martindale for over a decade.   Eric was also honored recently by DBusiness Magazine as one of metro Detroit's Top Lawyers.

Outside of the firm, Eric is an avid outdoorsman, mountain biker and skier, as well as coach of  youth baseball and basketball throughout the year.

Steven L. Groves

Steven L. Groves, graduated from Saint Louis University School of Law with Honors in 1992. Since passing the bar that same year, Steve has exclusively represented injured people and their families. He has helped hundreds of railroad employees from all crafts get compensation for on the job injuries. He has tried cases in over ten different courts around the country. In addition to his experience at the
trial level, he has successfully handled cases in both State and Federal Appeals Courts. His clients have come from all of the class 1 railroads and several short lines. He handles both traumatic and occupational (asbestos, carpal tunnel, knee, etc.) cases and has represented injured employees from Missouri , Illinois , Arkansas , Iowa , Alabama , Tennessee , Kentucky , Louisiana , Oklahoma , Nebraska , Minnesota and Texas .

Steve lives in St. Louis , Missouri and is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America; Missouri Association of Trial Lawyers; Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the Missouri and Illinois Bar Associations. Steve is on the board of governors for the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys.

Gerard B. Schneller

Gerard B. Schneller was born the youngest of eight children on November 11, 1964 , in St. Louis , MO. He attended Marquette University in Milwaukee , WI , graduating in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. He then attended St. Louis University School of Law where he was a member of the National Moot Court Team, and graduated cum laude and awarded the honor of Order of the Woolsack. He was admitted to the bar of the State of Missouri in 1990, and the State of Illinois in 1991. He worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois from 1991 to 1995, working out of East St. Louis , IL.

Since 1995, he has worked exclusively in handling the claims of injured workers and others suffering personal injury.

He practices in the areas of FELA; Railroad Accidents and Injuries; Maritime/Jones Act; and Personal Injury. He has handled cases in 15 states around the country. He is a member of various legal organizations, including the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis ; Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association; Missouri Bar Association; and Illinois State Bar Association.

Gerry resides in St. Louis , MO with his wife, Coleen, and children, Danny, Mary Grace and Abigail.

Ryan M. Furniss

Ryan M. Furniss was born in Quincy , Illinois and raised in a working-class farming and railroad family in Pike County , Illinois . He received his Bachelor of Arts in History and a minor in Philosophy from McKendree College in Lebanon , Illinois . He attended Washington University School of Law in St. Louis , Missouri where he was a member of the school's National Moot Court Team and was the Honorable Joseph H. Goldenhersh Endowed Scholar. Ryan was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 2003 and the Illinois Bar in 2004.

William E. Kruse

William E. Kruse was born in St. Charles, MO, and raised in a middle-class family in and around the St. Louis Metropolitan area. He worked for his father’s residential construction business while in high school, until he started his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at the University of MO-St. Louis in 1994.

After serving at sea aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Valiant, based out of Miami Beach, FL, he attended law school at Florida International University, where he was awarded CALI awards for excellence for his work litigating felony criminal cases in Miami-Dade circuit court as well as for his outstanding course work in Complex Litigation. He represented his second year class as a representative to the Student Bar Association, and later served as the Board Vice President.

He brings his knowledge of maritime law and service to the firm, and also practices in the areas of FELA, Jones Act and personal injury. He is a member of the Missouri and Illinois State Bars, as well as the Federal Bars for the Eastern District of Michigan, Eastern District of Missouri, Western District of Missouri and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Apart from his work at the firm, William resides in St. Louis City, with his beautiful wife Stephanie, and is an accomplished triathlete, cyclist and runner.
